The angry mob demanded John leave the house. After a few minutes, John left the dwelling and walked into the darkness, flanked by three hundred people, to the neighboring town. In this town, the mob grew and its fury intensified. "Do you want to hear me?" John shouted. "No, no," many responded, shouting, "Kill him."
Obeying His call, John Wesley defied the force of angry mobs and contravened deeply rooted traditions to offer the hope of Christ to millions of people. Passionate and tireless, he traveled four hundred thousand kilometers on horseback throughout his life, and preached more than forty thousand sermons in fields, churches, and stables. The movement Wesley founded multiplied throughout England into Methodist communities and soon influenced distant nations with the gospel of Christ. (1703-1791)
