Return to the Race

The Christian life is a race. Through the gospel, God calls us to persevere. He equips His children through grace and unmerited blessing through Christ, who opened the way for us and now calls us to follow Him to the end. But He does not take us to heaven wrapped in cotton wool; instead, we often have to overcome great obstacles. Faith is a living and athletic grace, and God's mercy motivates Christians and energizes them to keep going. And how will we persevere? By looking to Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). In Him, we have everything we need.

But realistically, Christians do not always persevere. Sometimes they stray from the narrow path, slip, and get injured. To the confused and injured runner, this book says, "God can help you. You can finish this race, and finish it well." Drawing on the wisdom of Scripture and with the help of insights from godly biblical teachers throughout the centuries, Back to the Race addresses the age-old problem of when a professing Christian backslides, that season of their life when sin becomes stronger, and its subtle signs that warn us when one is falling into a spiritual rut, and shows us that there is hope for the backslidden Christian.

God is wonderful! Despite rejecting Him and moving away from Him, He calls us to return. When we hold on to God by faith, we discover that it was Christ who had sustained us. Our spiritual physician has powerful remedies to heal His people from their wounds and get them back on track to finish the race. This book is a wake-up call for careless Christians and an encouragement for all believers to keep running towards the Lord.
