But for 1,600 years, Augustine has not remained silent, nor have the men who faithfully trumpeted for Christ after him. Their lives have inspired every generation of believers and compel us to have a greater passion for God.

This book is about the relationship between poetic endeavor and the power to perceive, savor, and express truth and beauty, specifically the truth and beauty of God in Christ. The three men discussed in this book made a poetic endeavor to see, savor, and express the glories of Christ. This endeavor in them was intentionally dependent on God, seeking to find penetrating, imaginative, and brilliant ways to express the excellences they contemplated. My thesis in the book is that this effort to express things in a beautiful way is possibly a way to see and savor beauty more – John Piper.
