Theology of the Creation of the Universe

The intention of this work is to "determine" the nature of God in His relationship with the Universe, specifying and analyzing the so-called cosmic attributes of God. It deals, therefore, with the problem of God, but oriented only in His relationship with the Cosmos, explicitly and radically disregarding His relationship with Man.

By God's relationship with the Cosmos, we mean "our Universe," the Universe that physics speaks of, the Universe that science has been studying and observing. Here, the historical process of progressive knowledge up to the currently prevalent conception is analyzed. That is, the problem of the Universe throughout human history from a strictly scientific perspective.

To this end, an acceptably detailed historical study is offered of the connections, agreements, and disagreements between the conception of God and that of the Universe and their possible relationality. Knowledge of the Universe, that is, of Creation in its religious version, informs about God, its creator, facilitating, modulating, the human elaboration of the concept of God. It deals, then, with the problem of the God-Universe relationship throughout human history, or, more properly, with the theology of the Creation of the Universe in its long historical development in light of scientific progress.

In such a vast Universe, where planet Earth represents so little, so very little, and in such an ancient Universe with so much life left to it, where human presence is so fleeting, so short, the idea of God's purpose must be re-evaluated, and in this context, the traditional fifth Sola of the Protestant tradition takes on special relevance: Soli Deo Gloria, for His glory. And in that context, human beings can glorify God, must glorify God in the very brief universal temporal interval that they are experiencing. (Francisco González de Posada)
