According to the Promise

"The life of God within the soul creates an infinite difference between the man who possesses it and the man who does not, and the question is to make sure that we have this life. Are you sure you have it?

It will be regrettable to cry out "peace, peace" where there is no peace, and to prophesy easy things for oneself, calming our hearts and lulling our conscience, failing to awaken from the dream until the thunder of judgment brings us to reality with a start and pulls us out of our delusion to face endless horror.

I want to help the reader in self-examination. I would like him to go beyond that examination and attain abundant grace, so that his holy and happy state becomes a witness in itself.

The first part of this booklet is intended to be like a sieve that separates the chaff from the wheat. I hope that my friend will use it for himself, and it will become the most important work he has done in a day. He who examined his account and found his business was losing, saved himself from bankruptcy, and that can also happen to the one who reads this book. If, on the other hand, he finds that his heavenly affairs are prospering, it will be a great comfort to him. No man has anything to lose by scrutinizing what is in his own heart." Charles Spurgeon
