When Sadoleto's letter was received in Geneva, a provisional reply was sent, awaiting further information. But who was capable of providing more information? Everyone rightly considered Sadoleto to be a very learned man. The letter had a gentle tone and made a great impression. No one dared to reply. And so, uneasiness grew in Geneva and in the other Swiss cities that had accepted the Reformation. What would happen now in Geneva?
