Kingdom, Politics, and Mission

Kingdom, Politics, and Mission brings together a series of essays that address this triple theme. The first two chapters are devoted to the theme of the Kingdom. Chapter 3 is an analysis of John Calvin's social and political ethics present in his vision of the Kingdom and its connections with the society and politics of his time, as well as the challenges it poses to Latin American reality. Chapters 4 and 5 are dedicated to Karl Barth's theology, as it appears in his decisive commentary on Romans.

Chapter 6 represents an inquiry into the hermeneutical circle of John Calvin and Karl Barth, in order to understand why their theologies represent a circulation of meaning that responds to different suspicions: ideological suspicion, theological suspicion, and exegetical suspicion, which, in turn, give rise to a new hermeneutics.

The final chapters of the book deal with two topics that remain relevant: the political theologies of Moltmann and Metz, and the transition of missiology from a vision of the Edinburgh Conference (1910) to a hundred years later, from Latin America, an old mission territory.
