A promise from God can be compared to a check payable to the bearer. This promise has been granted to the believer for the purpose of receiving grace, not to be read superficially and then disregarded. The Christian must consider it as something real, just as a check is to a merchant.
The Christian must take it in their hands, sign it, personally accepting it as true. By faith, they accept and appropriate it, thus declaring that God is truth and that His promise is also true. Consequently, they believe themselves to be in possession of the promised blessing, and in anticipation, they deliver a signed receipt in their name, acknowledging receipt of said blessing. Having done this, they present this promise to God, in the same way that a check is presented to a bank teller, and pray with the assurance that it will be fully fulfilled. On the due date, they will receive the promised grace. If the payment date has not yet arrived, they wait patiently until it does; meanwhile, they must consider the promise as if it were money, since they have the certainty that the Bank will pay them in due time.
