“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:1).
Although, due to what is expressed in verse three: "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place," many have called Psalm 8 the "Astronomer's Psalm," the truth is that the key to its entire message is found in verse one: "The Name." This is demonstrated by the fact that it concludes with the exact same words with which it begins: "how majestic is your name in all the earth!"
How excellent and glorious is God's name! And how outstanding and eminent is the name of Jesus throughout the world! His incarnation, his birth, his humble and rather obscure life, his preaching, his miracles, his passion and death, his resurrection, and his ascension: are celebrated and commemorated throughout the world. His religion, his doctrine, the gifts and graces of his Spirit, his people – Christians – his gospel and his preachers: proclaim his name everywhere. No other name is so universal, no other power or influence acts so directly on the human race, as the name of the Savior: "for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).
A Psalm of profound doctrinal content, after reading it, accompanied by corresponding commentaries by Spurgeon and other great authors, the reader will discover new and glorious meanings in words we utter in the model prayer: "The Lord's Prayer": "hallowed be your name."
The purpose of the Psalms Collection is to encourage devotional reading of the Bible, by reading the Psalms in a different way: In 4 comparative versions (Reina Valera 1960 - Reina Valera 1977 - New International Version – The Bible of the Americas; and a poetic rhyming version) and, in turn, linking the text of each verse of the Psalm with other passages of Scripture.
Each verse is devotionally commented on by the great preacher Charles H. Spurgeon (author of “Morning by Morning,” “Evening by Evening,” “The Cheque Book of the Bank of Faith” ); and also by hundreds of other great expositors of the Word throughout history. These commentaries link each verse of the Psalm with other passages of Scripture through footnotes. If the reader looks up and reads each of these citations, they will end up reading the entire Bible: from Genesis to Revelation; while enriching their spiritual life with a different understanding of the message of the Psalms. A different way to read the Bible... In the light of the Psalms!
Each psalm is presented individually with a thematic title reflecting the main theme of that Psalm: Creation, Trust, Forgiveness, Impatience, Praise, Time, etc., to facilitate selection according to the reader's preferences or needs. And each individual book contains the COMPLETE TEXT of that Psalm in the master work of: “The Treasury of David.”
