Believe not every spirit

The evangelical movement is in crisis. Not everything that happens in the church is bad, but… it’s not good either. How do we distinguish between good and bad? How do these new religious movements affect the church?

One of the biggest challenges facing the church in the twenty-first century is learning to discern among the many supposed versions of the gospel circulating in our midst. This challenge is not new; John already said: “Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God” 1 John 4:1. Justo L. González, with his usual clarity, erudition, and simplicity, presents a series of biblical and theological principles to distinguish between error and sound doctrine. These principles were already used by the church at different times, especially when it faced the presence of “new gospels.” The invitation is to learn to test whether the spirit is from God or not.
