A Biblical Theology of Natural Law

DIVINE COVENANTS AND NATURAL LAW

David VanDrunen takes us on a theological journey, exploring the timeless question of natural law from a contemporary perspective. Drawing on his solid Reformed theological lineage and the broad Christian tradition, VanDrunen weaves a unique understanding of natural law supported by a detailed analysis of the Holy Scriptures.
Through his lens, biblical covenants become the central axis of the study. In the first section, the covenant of creation and the agreement with Noah unveil the foundations of how God governs the world under natural law. While, in the second section, the redemptive covenants with key figures such as Abraham and Israel, and the relationship with the New Testament Church, reveal the responsibilities of God's people in relation to natural law.
Divine Covenants and the Moral Order concludes with a penetrating reflection on the imperative need for a firm theology of natural law and its crucial role in the believer's public life.

"David VanDrunen continues in this work his excellent work to recover and re-popularize the Reformed doctrine of the two kingdoms. That there is a biblical-theological account of natural law may come as a surprise to those who have habitually thought of natural law in secular terms. But such law is a divine gift that plays its role in every age. VanDrunen shows that it is a revealed truth, confirmed by experience, and that it serves as the basis of 'the kingdoms of this world'."
Paul Helm

"
Divine Covenants and the Moral Order is definitively the most complete and original work on natural law by a Reformed Christian theologian to date... An important contribution to an essential and Judeo-Christian dialogue on natural law."
David Novak
