Leading Worship

This work is designed to meet two important needs. The first is to answer the question of whether or not “reformed” worship exists. This rather remarkable question arises amidst the liturgical chaos of our day, an era in which attempts are being made everywhere to graft reformed doctrine and polity onto church forms of minimal liturgy (low church), highly elaborate liturgy (high church), and no liturgy (i.e., no-church churches).

The answer presented in the following pages is yes, there is a distinctly reformed worship, it is the most appropriate way to express and spread the reformed faith, and indeed, the reformed faith will not survive in combination with forms of worship alien to it.

Secondly, this work is designed to provide resources in the manner of the old Book of Common Order for those who “lead worship.” We suspect that one reason for the deterioration of reformed worship has been the relative inaccessibility of resources drawn from the reformed church.
