Declaration of Sentiments and Public Disputations

THE MAIN WORK OF ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL THEOLOGIANS OF ALL TIME

Jacob Arminius (1560 -1609), was professor of theology at the University of Leiden in Holland from 1603 until his death. He wrote many books and treatises on theology, published after his death, and his views became the basis of Arminianism, the Dutch Remonstrant movement, as well as Methodism and Pentecostalism. Arminius' influence on evangelical Protestant theology is only equaled by John Calvin. Throughout his life, Arminius sought to be faithful to the message of the Scriptures, as it had been understood from the apostolic, patristic, medieval, and reformation eras. His work is the product of a highly elevated intellect, and a deep piety and love for the Church. His motto when writing was Bona conscientia paradisus, which means: A good conscience is a paradise.
However, although Arminius' influence has been tremendous in Latin America, very little is known about him, and distortions of his thought abound, both from his
defenders and his critics. This book represents the first Spanish translation of the two main theological works of the Dutch theologian. The Declaration of Sentiments represents the synthesis and defense of his beliefs, composed shortly before his death, and Public Disputations is a compendium of systematic theology, written for his colleagues and theology students. Among the features of this work are:

  • The first Spanish translation of Arminius' academic works.
  • Dozens of study notes.
  • Complete edition, unabridged or summarized.
  • A historical and theological introduction to Arminius.

Jacob Arminius (1559-1609) was born in Oudewater, Holland, and is considered one of the most influential theologians in evangelical Protestant theology. His ideas are diligently studied even to this day. Declaration of Sentiments and Public Disputations are his crowning works, the fruit of a lifetime of study.
