The Reformation in Latin America and the Caribbean

The history of the Reformation in the Americas begins with the visit of the French Huguenots to Cuba in 1528. The Huguenots in Brazil formed the first Church (1557) and were the first Protestant martyrs in the New World. At the same time, the Protestant association with piracy, the slave trade, and colonial ambitions delayed its spread. When slaves were freed and colonies became new nations, the Reformed mission and Church reached all countries in the Americas.
