The Relevance of the Message of Numbers: The Book of Numbers presents a view of man and his relationship with God that is very different from that of other peoples. Man is responsible for his actions; our lives are not written anywhere outside of God's book, and He does not become a substitute for destiny, whose sovereignty is inseparable from human freedom. In our current world, man seems to be afraid of his freedom and places his life in hands much crueler than those of destiny or the gods of other peoples. Human beings are capable of putting their trust in men, in tyrants, in ideologies, and in the most decadent superstition rather than recognizing God's sovereignty.
