Dr. John Owen was born in 1616 and grew up in an Oxfordshire village, entering the University of Oxford at the age of twelve. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1632 and his master's degree in 1635. He is one of the most prominent theologians England has ever had.
"Meditations on the Glory of Christ" was the last book he wrote, and he died while it was being printed. His motive, as he says, was "for the encouragement of his mind when weakness, weariness, and the approach of death were calling him from this earthly life." He says, "A continual sight of the glory of Christ will result in the effect of changing us more and more into the image of Christ. Perhaps other methods and means have failed us, so we must put this one to the test. There are two ways to see the glory of Christ: now in this world through faith, and in heaven by sight for all eternity."
