The documents provided in this collection are vital for a proper understanding of the Baptists' awareness of their own identity at the beginning of the modern Baptist movement. They show that theological convictions were not a mechanical repetition of the doctrine of their dissenting peers, but a deeply conscientious presentation of those things they confidently believed to be true. Every serious Baptist historian, theologian, and church member will benefit from careful attention to this treasure trove of primary sources. James Renihan always provides us with carefully conceived materials that will have long-term benefits.
Dr. Tom J. Nettles

Primary sources are essential to all our knowledge and interpretation of the past. Not using them or even not possessing them relegates the historian to a position little better than that of a historical fiction writer. By gathering in one book these valuable documents on the life of English Baptists from the late 17th century, James Renihan has given everyone interested in that era a hidden treasure, which offers vital insights into the early English Baptists' understanding of themselves. These texts are not of mere antiquarian interest either, for the simple fact of being Baptist is a choice many still make; these materials can immeasurably help make this a truly informed choice.
Dr. Michael A. G. Haykin

Publisher's Note:
"Faith and Life" is a confessional phrase (see 2CBFL 1.6) intended to express everything a believer should believe and the principles by which they should live. Dr. James Renihan could not have chosen a more appropriate title for this book, as it is a compilation of primary sources that gather the doctrine of the Particular Baptists, expressed in documents such as
The Second London Baptist Confession of Faith and The Baptist Catechism (included here), as well as narrative reports of the assemblies they held between 1689 and 1694, a historical record of how they lived their faith and sought to apply it in their associational life.

Without a doubt, this book has been one of the most important projects we have developed as a publisher. Its translation into Spanish began on April 29, 2020, and concluded on December 23, 2021. From the first day, we worked with great enthusiasm and diligence, striving to be increasingly aware of the responsibility we assumed when we set out to bring it into our language, and with the purpose that these historical documents of incalculable value can be placed in the hands of all our readers with excellence and fidelity, to satisfy the interest of believers who want to know more about the history and faith of Particular Baptists, and that of academics who turn to this work looking for a reliable translation that will allow them to advance in their research.
