Devotion to God in Action

Devotion to God is not a spiritual luxury of saints of the past or superstars of the present. It is the privilege and duty of every Christian in all times: God, by His power, has given us “all things that pertain to life and godliness.” According to the author, devotion is what enables a believer to develop a lifestyle that pleases God. But he clarifies that devotion without action is ineffective, and action without devotion is dry and sterile. We need an internal foundation of God as the center in order to build an external structure of likeness to Him. Jerry Bridges offers us practical guidelines for acquiring that devotion to God—not to certain things, ideas, or people—which will help us assimilate divine character and express it in our daily lives. The reader will not find here a theoretical dissertation about the ideal Christian, but a path for the real believer here and now. The author not only preaches what should be and is fitting but also lives what he writes.
