A Directory for Graceless Sinners to Obtain Salvation (Puritan Writings Series)
The writing that the reader holds in their hands is evangelistic in nature, intended to guide sinners and the impenitent to "achieve true saving grace." Similarly, this writing aims for us to "be suspicious of ourselves, careful not to be deceived in such a great matter, diligent in searching and examining our hearts, to know whether we are truly sanctified or not." It consists of 20 clear and powerful instructions, such as not remaining in a state of ignorance, abandoning a sinful life, the loss that exists in surrendering to sin, seriously heeding the Word of God, etc., all extremely important points regarding the salvation of the soul.
Baxter has written numerous works of this type, among which we can mention the following:Â A Call to the Unconverted;Â A Treatise of Conversion;Â Now or Never;Â Directions for a sound Conversion;Â A Saint or a Brute;Â A Treatise of Judgment, etc. All of these can be said to have greatly benefited the souls of people in their time. Of one of these writings it is said "that it has been blessed by God with wonderful success in rescuing people from their ungodliness. Six siblings were converted once by reading it. And in little more than a year, twenty thousand copies were printed and distributed, etc." And this writing is no exception in this regard.
