LEARN FROM ONE OF THE BEST PREACHING TEACHERS IN HISTORY

Simeon's influence extends to this day, both through his legacy via men like John Stott (1921-2011) and Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981), who saw themselves as heirs to Simeon's legacy, and through institutions founded under Simeon's auspices, or as heirs to his legacy, such as the
Charles Simeon Trust. During his fifty-four years of pastoral ministry at Trinity Church in Cambridge, Simeon delivered expository sermons on the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, week after week. Throughout his entire pastoral ministry, he dedicated over thirty years to teaching and training preachers. Over his more than 54 years of pastoral ministry, Charles Simeon contributed to the training of over a thousand pastors, preachers, and missionaries. Simeon is considered one of the most influential homiletics teachers of all time. This first volume of the Homiletics Training Library (40 vols)contains sermons and outlines for expository preaching on Genesis; and is intended to be a homiletical aid for sermon preparation, teaching the Scriptures, and guiding family or personal devotion. There are six distinguishing characteristics of this collection of books:

  1. Expository exegesis of the text.
  2. Christocentric application.
  3. Rooted in the historical doctrines of Christianity.
  4. Homiletical relevance.
  5. Devotional reading.
  6. Evangelistic application.

“You can find his insights on almost every key text in the Bible. What Simeon experienced in the Word was extraordinary. It's so completely different from the advice we receive today that it's worth examining closely.”
John Piper

CHARLES SIMEON (1759-1836) was pastor of Trinity Church in Cambridge, England, for 54 years. He is best known for his work Horae Homileticae, a 21-volume collection of "expository sermons" from Genesis to Revelation.
