Foreword

These daily readings have been selected from various sources, primarily from lectures given at the Bible Training Institute in Clapham, London, during the years 1911 to 1915; and then, from October 1915 to November 1917, from talks offered night after night at the Young Men's Christian Association barracks in Zeitoun, Egypt.

In November 1917 my husband entered the presence of the Lord. Since then, many of his dissertations have been published in book form. Much of these readings were taken from the talks given during devotionals at the Institute. This time decisively marked the lives of many students in their relationship with God. "Men return again and again to the few who have mastered spiritual secrets, and whose lives have been hidden with Christ in God. These are the true believers who have crucified their lives on the cross of Christ," Robert Murray McCheyne.
