In Search of Truth

What is it like when Christians making important decisions receive contradictory advice? Why is there such great disagreement among believers regarding the Sabbath and Sunday? Why do some Christians feel obliged to tithe while others consider it an incorrect approach to stewardship? The most frequent and important reason for these differences is the absence of a correct biblical framework in our thinking. This book establishes six interpretive principles, derived from the Bible, which together offer us the kind of framework we need. The author explains these principles, adding illustrations, and then applies them to some key issues: divine guidance, the law, the ten commandments, work, and money. Each chapter also includes a practical and incisive application of these principles to contemporary Christian life.

The primary value of this book, as the author himself states, is that it offers us principles that generate a framework allowing us to think biblically. This is all the more necessary today as many Christians, when approaching biblical reading and study, are more willing to be guided by other criteria such as comfort, personal preferences, or justifications for doctrines that lack strong biblical basis. This book helps us train our minds to think, first and foremost, and to do so in a way that is consistent with the Scriptures.

This book is a good example of how important it is to perceive the continuities and discontinuities that exist between the two Testaments. Failure to make these distinctions is what causes not a few of the misunderstandings among exegetes of the Scriptures and, by extension, among preachers who offer a biased teaching of them.

In each of the practical topics developed in the second part of the book, he provides a very interesting exposition enriched by contributions from Biblical Theology that bring us closer to the content of the Scriptures on each topic throughout the history of divine Revelation. Based on this knowledge, the author constructs a Systematic Theology that helps and prepares us to apply the teachings of God's Word in a coherent and practical way to our own lives and circumstances, as we see, for example, in the topic developed about "Divine Guidance" or that of Work. Especially instructive is the contribution of Biblical Theology to the topic of the Law and that of the Ten Commandments. The theological principles studied contribute to the richness of these contributions, each one providing necessary aspects for a correct view of the topic.

When there is a framework for theological thinking, we must be willing to abandon our presuppositions based on tradition or a biased interpretation of the Bible and adhere to the correct approach, even if this entails a "revolution," or at least, a change in our way of thinking.
