The influence of postmodernism has led us to believe that the point of having a debate is to have a debate and then agree to disagree (to sit in a mutual affirmation love-fest). For Trueman, the point of debate is, as the Apostle Paul clearly demonstrates again and again in the book of Acts, to establish what is the best position. This collection of essays provides an in-depth examination of the state of the evangelical church today, and unlike many current debates, it offers, in light of Scripture and history, the course that should be followed.

Books that are essay collections rely not so much on the subject as on the author to draw our interest. I cannot think of an evangelical writer and theologian whose works I read with more eagerness than those of Carl Trueman.
