However, the author takes us beyond previous writings on the Thessalonian correspondence by seriously considering the social dimensions of both Christianity in Thessalonica and the text of both letters.

By combining traditional exegetical methods with this new approach, Wanamaker seeks to understand Pauline Christianity in Thessalonica as a socio-religious movement in the first century Greco-Roman world, and attempts to grasp the social character and function of Paul's letters within that context.
