In light of the Ten Commandments, William B. Scott presents the theme of the Sabbath under three main sections:
—Rest: "so that your male and female servants may rest as you do" (Dt. 5:14).
—Remembrance: "Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm" (Dt. 5:15).
—Redemption: "So the Son of Man [the suffering servant, the Redeemer] is Lord even of the Sabbath" (Mk. 2:28).
In this way, the author develops this important aspect of the Christian life concisely yet eminently biblical and practical.
Given the widespread neglect of this divine commandment, we would do well to ascertain what the biblical teaching is on the matter, both for our good and for the glory of God.
