The Baptist Catechism - Study Edition

Why another edition of The Baptist Catechism? Simply because we believe that this intentionally doctrinal, historically proven, and usefully designed tool can be, today as in the past, a great blessing in the lives of our families and churches. As a publisher, we long to do everything in our power to contribute to the use of this tool and make it more accessible to Spanish-speaking people of God.
Historically, this catechism was one of the practical responses of our Particular Baptist fathers to what they called "a source and cause of the decay of Religion," by which they meant "the neglect of God's worship in families by those who have been entrusted with the burden and conduct of these." At the General Assembly of the association of Particular Baptist churches in London and its surroundings, held from June 6-12, 1693, it was agreed that "a Catechism be drawn up containing the substance of the Christian religion, for the instruction of children and servants." Thus was born The Baptist Catechism for the benefit of all churches, so that with it a faithful summary of the Christian Religion might be imparted to the heart of every believer and their family.
This edition is titled Notes Edition because its purpose is to be an interactive tool for the believer while studying, meditating on, and memorizing this summary of the Christian Religion. The lines on each right-hand page invite the reader to write down their reflections, explanations, and syntheses of each of the 114 questions of The Baptist Catechism.
Features of this edition
Complete text: This edition contains a complete translation of the body of The Baptist Catechism as it appears in the facsimile of the 1695 edition.
Sections for notes: The distinctive feature of this edition is the space we have included for notes in the form of lines on each right-hand page of the book opposite each catechism question. We have left one question per page so that there is the necessary space for comments and reflections.
Reader aids: Like the Reading Edition, this edition contains an introduction written by Dr. James M. Renihan which presents a wonderful overview of the catechism, including its purpose, origin, structure, and tools that can be used to make the most of its content. In addition, we have added three appendices written by Dr. Corey Johnson with the purpose of helping to better understand the use of the catechism in the life of the family and the church.
