A Biblical Description of Family Duties (Puritan Writings Series)

We live in an age where contempt for the family is palpable. On the one hand, we have a husband model who is more effeminate, more violent, more submerged in perversions to satisfy his lusts. We also have a wife who is more masculinized, more volatile, more insubordinate, and more self-centered. Furthermore, we have quarrelsome, rebellious children, disobedient to their parents, disrespectful of their elders and rulers. And, likewise, the constant complaints, disputes, quarrels, disparagements, etc., between bosses and employees, are daily news. And if the family is so disturbed in our time, it is not surprising that society is increasingly heading towards ruin.

And because of all the above, this type of material on the family becomes extremely necessary. The biblical Puritan wisdom on practical matters never ceases to amaze. And this small manual on family duties is no exception. In it, we are made aware of the variety of our duties towards our relationships according to our condition that God Himself demands of us; we are awakened and exhorted to fulfill them with all seriousness and cheerfully; and we are reproved and admonished for our negligence of them, calling us to repent. And it exposes all this in a surprisingly biblical way. And in sending it to the world, we can only pray that the Lord will bless it and use it for the benefit and profit of His people, for those who obey God in fulfilling their family duties cannot help but create in their families a small heaven on this side of eternity. And also for the good of our society, for it is known that ruined families create weak and unstable societies; and well-ordered families cannot help but create strong and stable societies.
