CTC15 Women in Ministry

Whatever your line of thinking, this book will give you food for thought and help you better understand your own position and the position of others. It confronts the arguments of the traditional perspective, that of male leadership, that of plural ministry, and that of the egalitarian approach; all of them accompanied by comments and criticism from opposing perspectives.

This book presents the four main current positions within the evangelical movement on the role of women in the Church:

Robert Culver provides the traditional perspective that women should not be involved in Christian ministry.

Susan Foh presents the position that women can work in some ministry as long as they are under the direction of a pastor.

Alvera Mickelsen provides the egalitarian view that supports the full ministry of women. She explains that women can perform any type of service for which God has equipped them and to which God has called them.

Walter Liefeld develops the position of the “universal priesthood” in the sense that all believers, including women, are ministers; the error stems from an excessive emphasis on ministerial ordination, inherited from hierarchical Catholicism, which has led to the role of women in the Church being debated more than necessary.

At the end of the exposition of each of the positions, the other three authors respond from their points of view. And the coordinator, Bonnidell Clouse, offers some final considerations, followed by a Bibliography on the subject of women and ministry.
