An Invitation to Young Women to Come to Christ (Puritan Writings Series)

The writing in the reader's hands was a sermon particularly addressed to women, taken from the text of Psalm 45:10-11: "Listen, O daughter, consider and incline your ear; forget also your own people and your father's house; so the King will greatly desire your beauty; for He is your Lord, and worship Him." Vincent's purpose in this sermon is to convince women to come to Christ by faith, or to accept Christ's invitation to be His bride. And he does so by presenting several reasons why they should come, expounding on the great benefits that Christians have when united with Christ, as well as the negative implications of not being united with Christ.

Vincent presents this in the simplest and most understandable way possible, as well as in the most endearing way possible, making our love aroused to love the Lord Jesus Christ, who is great, rich, wise, powerful, good, beautiful, and loving, being the best and most excellent suitor anyone could have.

This sermon was so charming that the great evangelist George Whitefield later preached it with several modifications to a society of young women in Fetter-Lane, London.
