"Evangelical Controversies: Knots Untied" is J. C. Ryle's main theological work in defense of evangelicalism in the Church of England against two battlefronts: theological liberalism and ecumenism. When it was first published in 1874, it proved immensely popular, and by 1885 it had been reprinted for a tenth edition.
"Evangelical Controversies" is a classic volume in which Ryle covers current disputes on various points of evangelical religion, advocating and defending the evangelical position throughout. He is the author of several books, including "Holiness," "Great Leaders of the Eighteenth Century," and "Meditations on the Gospels." Ryle expounds cardinal doctrines of the Christian faith in a clear yet profound way.
