Jeremiah’s life and vocation are well-documented. He had to face enemies, suffered persecution, and died in forced exile in Egypt. He left us the most impressive personal confessions in the entire biblical tradition. He fought with the Word of God against kings-princes-priests-people, in a more spiritual and elevated type of war, in contrast to the wars of this world.
Jeremiah promoted the Yahwist reform and announced the restoration of all Israel; he denounced injustice and the contamination of worship; he encouraged the Jewish exiles in Babylon and, after the final destruction of the temple, was taken to Egypt, where he died.
