Commentary on Psalms 119 to 134

Psalm 119 is known not only for being the longest psalm in the collection, but also for its central topic: the Law of God. This Psalm offers a series of reflections on the subject expressed in different ways, from petitions to thanksgivings, from resolutions to plain affirmations; dealing with the nature, properties, qualities, and effects of the Law. John Calvin offers the reader his valuable commentaries, displaying his passion and high esteem for the Scriptures. We have chosen to accompany this commentary with the Songs of Ascents, as these reflect the effect that exposure to the Word of God should have on every believer: genuine worship. The Songs of Ascents were hymns sung by pilgrims as they ascended to Jerusalem each year to present their offerings and celebrate the glory of God. In the same way, may our pilgrimage in this world be marked by a life of continuous worship, a song of praise to God, until He receives us in the New Jerusalem.
