The book of Malachi is one of the least popular books in the Old Testament. I doubt many would count it among their popular books. I believe this is because the prophets, as their interlocutors also thought, did not carry a very encouraging message. Also, the way the prophets write, full of figures of speech and outdated information, discourages reading it. Finally, I believe the Old Testament has been discredited as a merely Jewish book, not suitable for the New Testament church. All this could be reduced to a single sin: not believing in the sufficiency of Scripture. Fortunately for us, God has raised up teachers to shake our intellectual laziness and our spiritual contempt. John Calvin was gifted by the Holy Spirit with the keenness to awaken our senses dulled by our sins. In a period when the Bible was taken away from God's people, any man, however small and insignificant, as Calvin was, was a light in the spiritual darkness. However, God did not give Calvin little fire; instead, He ignited a flame that consumed the European nations with a true Reformation; a fire that can spread to our Spanish-speaking countries.
