The BEMH uses the version known as Versión Mundo Hispano, or VMH for its acronym in Spanish. This means that it has its own characteristics, qualities, and follows certain specific criteria. The VMH maintains the classic flavor of the texts by Casiodoro de Reina and the revision by Cipriano de Valera (known as Reina-Valera or RV for its acronym). This version is an effort to communicate the message of God's Word in the language spoken by Spanish speakers. The text is honest, reliable, and a product of the deep and conscientious study of many scholars throughout the history of Christianity.
We can state that the VMH is a middle ground between a literal translation that follows the discipline of translating word-for-word and a "dynamic" translation that tries to capture the ideas of the text and find the most commonly used words today to express the message. This concept of the VMH can be described as "moderately literal." That is, we stay very close to the original texts and express them in ways that are understandable to the Spanish-speaking reader.
