Christian Heroes, Then and Now: Richard Wurmbrand (Love Overcomes)

As he tried to think calmly about faith, Richard realized that he wanted nothing to do with Christianity, even if it was true. When he imagined his life as a Jew converted to Christ, the prospect left him horrified. No one in their right mind would choose to follow such a path. Certainly, Richard was sure that he would not choose it.

Richard Wurmbrand, founder of The Voice of the Martyrs, was in his youth a determined atheist set on experiencing all the pleasures the world could offer him. However, he also regretted that God did not exist, and would have preferred that somewhere in the universe a loving heart was beating.

When this young Romanian discovered the love of Christ, he left everything to serve Him with determination, despite his country's alignment with the Nazis and the communist regime that rose to power after the war. He decided to respect the human dignity of his worst enemies by responding to hatred with love. He had to endure years of imprisonment and beatings for preaching the gospel of peace (1909-2001).
