There are many books on the practice of worship, but very few on the theology of worship. Dr. Peterson believes that worship must be documented and well-founded on a biblical theology; for this reason, he shows us, through careful exegesis of the biblical text and taking into account both Testaments, that worship must guide all facets of our lives and must allow us to enter into a relationship with God on His terms and in the direction that only He makes possible.
All of this is dealt with in a biblical, exhaustive, and practical manner. In other words, the author crosses the dense barrier of our inherited difficulties to move to the clarity and direct quality of biblical teaching, allowing it to challenge us. The book reflects an exhaustive knowledge of academic literature on every page. However, the author shows a practical intention to help today's Christians recover the richness of biblical worship, so that the Church may be edified and more faithful to the original pattern.
