The preaching of God’s Word is both an art and a science, and it is the highest calling of the minister of Word and Sacrament. The preaching of the Word is the primary means of grace by which God builds up His Church, speaking to them through His Word and Spirit, using ministers as instruments in His hands, as messengers of the Good News.
The purpose of this book is to equip preachers to train other preachers in the art of expository preaching. This material has been developed over several years and includes two main parts in sermon preparation: studying the biblical passage and writing the sermon.
The method given here is useful for studying many biblical passages. However, it is not applicable to every literary genre, such as narrative, poetry, proverbs, parables, and apocalyptic literature. Although certain principles may be useful for those genres. In addition, this book includes lessons on matters pertaining specifically to other types of biblical literature.
