D. Scott Meadows, my dear friend, is a brave soul who delves into what is known as the "worship wars." As unsettling as some aspects of this "war" can be, public worship is an important topic in the Bible; therefore, it is an important topic to the Lord. Since it is so important to God, it should be important to us. Meadows' book aims to bring readers into the sphere of pure worship in accordance with God's Word, our only infallible rule for doctrine and practice. It also addresses the meaning of the "Regulative Principle of Worship," as formulated by some Reformed creedal statements, offering corrective words for some in our day who have misinterpreted this important doctrine. Most likely, there are readers who will disagree with some of the arguments in this book. However, I encourage readers not to let that be a hindrance to reading and meditating on those arguments. It is an important book, touching on a subject that shows much confusion in our day, even by some who claim to hold the Reformed view of public worship. Open it and read it!
—Dr. Richard C. Barcellos, PhD. Pastor of Grace Reformed Baptist Church. Palmdale, California. Associate Professor of Biblical Studies IRBS Theological Seminary. Mansfield, Texas
Among the plethora of voices addressing the question of worship, Scott Meadows' is sensible and insightful, rising above the often-heated exchanges, and suggesting clarity and conviction, principle and persuasion. If you have time to read only a few books on this subject, this should be one of them. But approach it prepared to see your convictions challenged by sound biblical arguments and an evangelistic zeal for conversion. It is a masterful and important contribution.
—Dr. Derek W. H. Thomas. Senior Minister of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. Columbia, South Carolina
Pastor Scott Meadows sounds a clarion call to return to God's Word and discover what kind of worship is acceptable to Him. His clear exegesis of Scripture, the foundational pillar of the Reformed tradition, makes his argument irrefutable. Meadows, who aims directly at the thoughts and intentions of the heart, contrasts God's command regarding worship with contemporary attitudes and practices. The presumed "worship wars" could end immediately if ministers and elders would simply teach and practice the biblical teaching on public worship.
