Martyrs and Persecutors

This story introduces us to the life of the church from a novel and interesting perspective: that of suffering, yes, but also that of testimony, which is what martyrdom comes to mean, with all its burden of heroism, moving and luminous exemplarity.

The history of persecutions offers the journey of the militant church in its capacity as confessor and disciple of its suffering Savior. Significantly, the New Testament dedicates a very important space to the passion and death of Jesus Christ, as well as to the persecutions suffered by the apostles.

In terms of historical analysis, this work pays special attention to the political, social, and religious context of the persecutions, taking into account not only the reasons of the persecuted, but also the reasons of the persecutors, in order to avoid falling back into the intolerance and fanaticism of both sides.

History cannot be used as a partisan ideological instrument, but as objective knowledge that clarifies the events of the past from their motivation and circumstances. Persecutions for religious reasons are once again news, and there is nothing better than knowing the past to draw valuable lessons for the present.
