"One day Cameron gave a Spanish Bible to a Kaqchikel indigenous man. He replied, "If your God is so great, why doesn't he speak my language too?" Cam didn't know what to say, but he resolved to find a solution."
Â
Cameron Townsend (1896-1982) wanted to promote Bible reading in Latin America. But the only Scriptures available were in Spanish—a foreign language to native peoples. To accomplish this task, Cam had to find a way to translate the Bible into languages that didn't even have an alphabet! Thus began the adventure of planting seeds of life in the hearts of people in Guatemala and Mexico. Cam founded Wycliffe Bible Translators, also known as the Summer Institute of Linguistics, so that speakers of all languages on Earth could learn to read the Good News for themselves.
