Young Amy was so worried that she wrote a note in which she committed to helping poor children. She also wrote: "When I grow up and get older, I already know what I'm going to do: I'm going to build a safe and loving place for girls like you."

Amy Carmichael was still young when an encounter with a ragged girl her age changed the course of her life; from that day on, she decided to serve others. When she grew up, she kept her promise, rescuing hundreds of women and children from hopelessness, poverty, and oppression. First in the poorest neighborhoods of Northern Ireland and then in faraway India. Amy approached others with love, faith, and compassion.

This beautiful story is a true treasure for all ages (1867-1951).
