Spurgeon delivered a short series of lectures to the students of his pastoral course, telling them that “soul-winning is the main occupation of the Christian minister; and, indeed, it should be that of every true believer.”
This series of lectures takes up the first six chapters of this book. They are followed by four speeches delivered to Sunday school teachers, open-air preachers, and friends who attended prayer meetings on Monday nights at the Metropolitan Tabernacle (the name of the church where Spurgeon was pastor). Finally, the last five chapters consist of a series of sermons in which Spurgeon strongly recommends the work of soul-winning to all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.
