Professor E.F. Kevan, aware of the need to clarify the concepts of Law, Gospel, Works, and Faith—obscured by antinomianism, extreme dispensationalism, and modernism—has rendered an excellent service to the Church of our time by writing his book The Evangelical Doctrine of the Law, of which the present Spanish translation offers a summary. Professor Kevan reminds us that the Law is not opposed to the Gospel, but rather prepares the way for it. Relying, on the one hand, on the best exegesis of the past (his frequent citations of Puritan authors and the best Reformed theologians) and working, at the same time, on the basis of modern scriptural research, he succeeds in demonstrating that while the perfect law is that of love, this love necessarily presupposes a law that is the eternal expression of God's character and demands, of God who has told us that He is love. And that, likewise, He is sovereign.
