The author addresses this little book to all those who have embraced the Gospel but who, despite understanding that "just as it pleased God to impute all their iniquities to the Savior, so too is He willing to consider all the Savior's righteousness as their own," find themselves overshadowed and saddened by the impossibility of living a holy life close to God.
