John MacArthur makes a valuable contribution to the interpretation and application of biblical text, reflected in careful exegesis, a great familiarity with the inspired writer and his context, as well as varied explanations and practical illustrations. It represents an excellent resource for sermon preparation, personal study, and devotional life.

"This series of New Testament commentaries reflects the goal of explaining and applying the Scriptures. Some commentaries are primarily linguistic, others are mostly theological, and some are primarily homiletical. This one is essentially explanatory and expository. It is not technically linguistic, but it deals with linguistics when that seems useful for proper interpretation. It is not extensively theological, but focuses on the main doctrines in each text and how they relate to the entire Bible. It is not primarily homiletical, although each unit of thought is generally treated as a chapter, with a clear outline and a logical flow of thought. Almost all truths are illustrated and applied with other passages. After establishing the context of a passage, I have tried to faithfully follow the development and reasoning of the writer.
