The relationship between human freedom and God's sovereignty has been a topic of discussion since the earliest centuries of the Christian Church. Despite Augustine's victory over Pelagius in the Fourth Century, it resurfaces again and again throughout history. During the Protestant Reformation (Sixteenth Century), the debate ignited once more. This work is the result of these debates, in which the Reformer John Calvin responds to the attacks launched against his position and that of most of the main Reformers.
