Created in the image of God

In his own words, Hoekema tells us: "In this book I will attempt to set forth what the Bible teaches concerning the nature and destiny of human beings. To understand what the Bible says about man, it is essential to keep in mind the teaching that men and women were created in the image of God. I will present the image of God as having two aspects, one structural and one functional, as involving the human being in a threefold relationship (with God, with others, and with nature) and as passing through four phases, namely, the original image, the defaced image, the renewed image, and the perfected image. I have based my study on a thorough analysis of the pertinent biblical material. The viewpoint set forth is that of evangelical Christianity from a Reformed or Calvinistic perspective."
