Among the most cherished stories in the Scriptures are the parables of Jesus. Taken from real life, the parables communicated spiritual truth and the message of salvation in simple, everyday language.

The Parables of Jesus sheds light on the parables and similar sayings found in the Synoptic Gospels. Each story is examined in light of its historical context and cultural implications, and then applied to the Christian life of our time. The entire text of each story is followed by commentary and an explanation of the unique characteristics of each Gospel.

Technical details are provided in the endnotes for those who wish to do a deeper study. The book also includes a selected bibliography that directs readers to additional resources. Accessible, informative, and greatly inspiring, The Parables of Jesus is an excellent book for pastors, teachers, students, and anyone interested in the importance of Jesus' stories.

“The parables of Jesus have been for many throughout history and in the various stages of their lives, the door to knowledge of Christ's message. Simon J. Kistemaker's exposition of these narratives further strengthens Christ's call to know the love and purposes of the Father and the truth of the kingdom of heaven.” Héctor H. Gómez, Editorial and Ministerial Director of Ediciones Berea

“Simon J. Kistemaker, whose erudition and valuable contributions to New Testament studies are well known, has opened up that knowledge to produce a work whose prose is simple enough for even a child to read, based on a profound mastery of the themes of the Gospels.” Eugene Merrill Distinguished Professor of Old Testament Studies Dallas Theological Seminary.
