Biblical Messages

Robert McChayne's biblical messages, along with his letters and other writings, were compiled by A. Bonar barely a year after McChayne's death. They first appeared in 1884, and the eagerness with which the English public read and received this work was truly sensational; proof of this is that twenty-five years after its appearance, more than one hundred and sixteen editions had already been reprinted. Especially in Scotland, MacCheyne's writings became, after the Bible, the most widely read book of the second half of the nineteenth century.

Robert Murray McCheyne was born in Edinburgh in 1813. Shortly after completing his theological studies, he accepted the pastorate of St. Peter's Church in Dundee. He was greatly used by the Lord through preaching, and conversions were very numerous. His ministry was brief. He died in 1883, at the age of twenty-nine. The news of his passing shook Scotland. In his scarce seven years of ministry, McCheyne bore more fruit for the Lord than many pastors combined. He continues to speak through his messages and writings. They have been a means of blessing for many souls; how many sinners have been converted by reading his writings! We ask the Lord to use them for the edification of Spanish believers, and also for the salvation of more souls.
