Christian Confessions and Creeds

Christianity has always been a confessional faith (see Timothy 3:16). Through doctrinal Symbols and Confessions, the Church of Christ has established its doctrine and fought heresies that have always been and will always be fickle and deceptive. The reformers taught us that the only way to maintain the validity and life of confessions is for them to be based solely on the firm rock of the Scriptures, without human opinions, spurious revelations, rigged councils, last-minute fables, or sticky sentimentalism.

The sects around us claim to believe in the Bible, but all of them, without exception, have another source of authority apart from the Scriptures. From a hierarchy with exclusive interpretation to sacred books, revelations, inner lights, living or dead prophets, etc., all are tortuous shortcuts that lead to denying the efficacy of the Scriptures and prevent the drafting of confessional documents that do not change at the whim of the current leadership.

The hyper-confessional declare that their organizations have several doctrinal symbols, but when we look closer, we see that they contradict each other. This is a deceptive maneuver to allow the entry of doctrinal error, liberalism, and the denial of the uniqueness of the Word of God.

The Latin American Fellowship of Reformed Churches (CLIR) offers us this collection of historical doctrinal Creeds and Reformed Confessions that are based solely on the Scriptures, which are a rule of doctrine and of unity of faith and conduct. That faith which was once delivered to the saints (Jude 3). To Him be the glory forever and ever, amen!
